I have stopped using cocaine but now C.A.S wants to test my baby when born and I am worried the cocaine i used in October that was 7 months ago, before i knew i was pregnant, will show up. Will it show up in the babies hair follical test?

Wow.. this question contains some of the most ignorant answers I have ever seen. The answer is NO, a hair follicle test on an ADULT can only catch drugs up to 6 months back. But you are calculating October as 7 months ago.. October was 5 months ago.. so even if you have your baby in two months, you still should be fine. You need to determine the EXACT date you did the Cocaine. I think your baby will be fine because you were only a month (if that) pregnant. A lot of women drink, etc. and don't even know they are pregnant at a month along. Don't worry.. and congratulations on your baby!

A certain amount of the hair that grows on a baby's head falls off in the womb, leaving a soft fuzz. I doubt that it will show up on the test.

no it won't, but the doctors have to have a reason to test the baby for drugs, and a definite reason to do a folicle test. Yjeu can not hold something against you when you were barely preg. b4 you even knew you were preggers

Be honest with them first and foremost. Tell them " Hey I did coke such and such a day but I have stopped and have been clean for such and such length of time." When they test for drugs they can determine by the strength of what is found (if it is found) when the last time you used was. Chances are if you were only like what 1-2 months pregnant when you last used it won't show up at all. But it is better to be honest with them. Keep yourself clean for that baby, remember once Child Protective Services is in your life, they will be there until your last one turns 18. You will consiantly have to prove yourself as a mother to these people. Congrats on staying clean this long, I don't know you but I am proud of you. Keep it up GIRL. You'll be fine.

no...according to your dates you would not have been pregnant as per last cocaine use and if u were only a few days, cocaine is 1 of the only drugs thats passes through your system at a very fast rate. if u have even touched it i mean physically in your hand any time recently then yes it would. wait oct is not 7 months ago its 5...even still it should not show up unless they did a spinal tap which they would not do on a baby to test for drugs..it would seem theres more to this story tho y wou,d they even want to test your child? unless they beleive u are still using

They will take a urine and maconium (sp) test but not a hair follical. They will take a hair follical sample from you though so be honest. If you aren't...it will just make matters worse. They only reason I know is because I had to go thru it. The hospital screwed up and got my son's diaper mixed up with another baby's and had to go thru all that sh*t for no reason!!!

I would be more worried about the effects it will have on your child rather than whether or not it will show up in your child's hair. If it does show up...maybe you shouldn't have children. You should have either been using protection if you were doing drugs or not have been doing drugs if you were having sex without protection.

I'm sorry you got some ignorant answers on here. I agree with FBI26- be honest up front. I have no idea if coke shows up on hair tests in babies, but I know it can give drug history for a year or better when performed on an adult. It is much better to get it out in the open, than to be caught in a lie.

You would have been just barely pregnant when you last used, so I'd say no. Hair tests can actually date drug use as a trace of the drug will be present in the hair permanently. That's why this test is often used on adults. They can take a sample of your hair and determine if you used drugs, and even estimate when you last used. Of course, you have to have the actual hair for this to work. If you have short hair, you may have already cut off the length that grew during the drug use. The hair closest to your scalp would show recent drug use, the further down the length they get, the earlier the drug use would have been. The longer the hair, the further back they can trace. Anyways, what I'm getting at is that they could tell from *your* hair that you've used drugs, but they can only estimate when.....not enough to prove drug use *during* pregnancy as it's only an estimate. The baby, on the other hand, would probably not be developing hair at the time you used. No hair, no trace.

Now, that only covers your hair question, I'm not sure about what other tests they might run. I didn't study much about drug detection in Infants. What I will say is that if you did indeed quit as soon as you found out you were pregnant, good for you. You shouldn't have been using in the first place, but at least you showed the common sense to stop when you did. I would hope that the CAS would keep that in mind even if they did have a way to detect early exposure.

It will show up but the level will be low if I were you I would definietly start going to an outpatient program before the baby comes or even inpatient this way it will help you and show the hospital and C.A.S that you are serious about being clean for the baby and yourself and that you are capable of taking care of your child in a drug free enviornment.This happen to my friend and although she had to sign over temp custody to her mom by doing this she was able to get clean and got her kid back in no time.{she used through out her pregnancy}.Stopping cocaine is the easy part it is staying sober day by day that's the hard part.
