I am 23 years old and never dye my hair. I went to get my hair cut and the hair stylist found ONE grey hair. It was like 6 inches of grey hair.
I know its only 1 grey hair, but is this normal for a 23 year old?
Should I expect to get a lot more soon or do many grey hairs take a long time to show up?
II don't want to dye my hair until I have out of control grey hairs..
P.S. I have a healthy diet and I am not extremely stressed.

grey hair is great!!
but why are you worrying about one hair anyway??
who cares what colour your hair is?
does it make you any less of who you are, now that you've fonud a grey hair?

You might want to ask your parents. Maybe you may have family members that turned grey at a young age.
Grey hair at 23?
I think that's not uncommon, my wife had 1 or 2 in her twenties and now is just starting to go grey in her late 40s

Go take a good look at some of your older family members....does prematurely gray hair run in the gene pool?
Frankly, at your age, this could be a great conversation starter. With the right style, gray hair can be extremely attractive.

I got a few greys around that age to. I'm 34 now and I fave about 8 grey hairs growing at my right temple. It's all genetics. My best friend was all grey by 28.

Heredity, it happens to a surprising amount of people. I am 20 and my bro is 25 and both of us get individual gray hairs in our facial hair. I've had grays here and there
Grey hair at 23?
it could be stress, or it could just be a strand that is being a rebel...lol, i wouldn't worry about it

Your are fine. In my family, that's normal, and I've heard lots of ppl on this site ask the same thing some it's happened outside of my family too. Dye it temperarily it's healthier.
My mom uses Loreal Preference (or maybe it's excellence, I'm not sure)

my boyfriend (who is 24) has like 10 grey hairs scattered over his head. he has short dark brown hair and honestly i think its kind of sexy. i know its not the same for a girl, but dont worry, its only one.
i guess the moral of the story is dont worry about it, nothing causes it except your genes. when they start to be more noticeable thats when you should even consiter dying it, til then, no worries.
Grey hair at 23?
very normal...one of my close friend also have that not one but many...he never dye his hair...i think its on your blood..heredity i think is also one of the reason

One grey hair is fine I think, grey can be from your genes though, you can try taking biotin supplement and vitamin Bs this is said to reverse or slow down greying of hair
Grey hair at 23?
I think it's normal. I'm 26 and have a few gray hairs myself. My sister makes fun of me because she's 10 years older and has not one gray hair. It just happens.
Grey hair at 23?
It's in the genes.
I have a cousin who started getting gray hair when he was in his 20s and by the time he was thirty his hair was totally gray.
I started getting gray hair in my 40s and I have very little gray hair to date.

You're LUCKY!!!
I started going gray by the old age of 15 years old!! If it's only one - don't sweat it. If it becomes more visible, try adding streaks to your hair
LOL Count your blessings that they've only started now!
Grey hair at 23?
Stress on your body causes your hair to go grey........ find out what is stressing you out and remove it from your life no more grey hair! My sister got her first grey hair when she was 18 She got rid f teh guy LOL

not at all abnormal.everyone has a discolored strand or two.are ur parents grey yet ?if so,at what age did they seriously begin to grey-its likely u will follow the same genetic pattern.some people have a gene for early greying, they can be completely grey by 30.its fairly uncommon, and if that happened to one of ur parents,u would know about it im sure.so,probably nothing to worry about.if u do have a family history of premature greying, get calcium status checked.the gene for early grey is located next to a gene that predisposes one to osteoporosis, and people often experience both conditions. a few grey hairs in ur 20's is not odd.just ask ur parents and grandparents about their greying pattern.ps-its a myth that stress causes grey hair-it is caused by genetics and aging ,and only occasionally by severe malnutrition.think about it,if stress caused grey hair, wouldnt we all have turned grey the day we took our lsat's ???????

Not unusual as you see from the answers above. I have known people to go gray very early in life, but that is mostly in their family line, they have had a parent that has gone gray while still young. Gray is quite attractive on a young person, well the hair is actually turning white, and the mix with the still browns hair makes it look gray. And it often comes in a streak in the front which is very atractive,as well. You still have a lot of time to decide, and you will now notice many others that are turning white.

I know someone at age 25 who is almost completely grey. His doctor told him its caused by a copper deficiency.
Grey hair at 23?
Its normal. I had my first + only one at 14 years old. It just happens. I havent had another one and im in my twenties now.

It has been said that a vitamin B-12 dificiency can cause premature grey. Make sure you take a "whole food" multivitamin. Nature's Plus source of life for women is one of the best and it is not as expensive as most other whole food multis (about 20-25$ for 30 days). I have tried many vitamins and that one is my favourite and it doesn't wound my checkbook.
B-12 vitamins are mainly found in meat and dairy products and are also necessary for metabolism, maintain the central nervous system. Or you can get a B-complex supplement. What every vitamin you use, make sure the vitamins are chelated, which means that the vitamin is attached to amino acids which means the body can better absorb it.
Heredity does play a part as well.
A lot of info, but I hope I helped!

trust me its okay my sister has grey hair and shes only 14 yrs old.

Sometimes you can get a grey hair, but once it falls out it will not grow back grey. The reason is that air can get trapped in the hair follicle, and the air bubble prevents the hair from taking the pigmentation.
Since it is just the one I would pull it out and see what happens.
